La Tour Eiffel
The most characteristic and tallest landmark in the city is the Eiffel Tower. It is one of the most famous monuments worldwide and it is even the most visited paid for structure in the world. The iron tower is located beside the river Seine and built on the Champ de Mars. The monument was designed and engineered by Gustave Eiffel and is open to visitors every day of the year. A ticket to the top of the tower will cost you 14,50 Euros. Not too expensive knowing it is the symbol of Paris.
Le Louvre opened its doors in 1793 and today it is one of the most famous museums in the world. The most famous painting on display is the Mona Lisa, but there is a lot more to see. Le Louvre has a collection that ranges from Dutch painters, Greek antiques, Art of Islam to French sculptors. With 60,000 square feet of exhibition it is one of the biggest museums in the world and it houses almost 40,000 different pieces of art. The pyramid shaped entrance of the building is easily found along the banks of the river Seine.
Cathedrale Notre Dame
Notre Dame means Old Lady. The Notre Dame is a Roman Catholic cathedral famous for its French Gothic architecture. Because of its architectural beauty it attracts millions of visitors from all over the world. Constructing the cathedral took almost 200 years, as construction started in 1163 and was completed in 1345. The result is beautiful however. Many people might know the Old Lady from Disney’s animated movie the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
You should really not miss out on these three sights. There are a lot of great things to do in Paris however. Sights, parks and old buildings are very accessible by foot and underground, making Paris a great city to explore for both young and old.
